TUBERCULAR DISEASES.
Two hundred and ninety-nine deaths were recorded as due to
Phthisis, and 121 to other forms of Tubercular Disease. The death
rate from Tubercular Diseases of all kinds formed nearly 14½ per
cent. of the total mortality from all causes, and is equal to a rate of
3.2 per thousand at all ages. The Tubercular Diseases of young
children caused 114 deaths, nine per cent. of the total deaths of
young children, a mortality on the estimated population of young
children of six per thousand.
PHTHISIS.
The death rate from Phthisis alone is equal to 2.3 per thousand in
Bethnal Green, whilst that for the whole of London is 1.8.
The death rate from Pulmonary Consumption in Central London
is 2.7, in the East 2.2, in the South 1.7, and in the North and
West 1.6.
RESPIRATORY DISEASES.
The deaths from diseases of the respiratory organs, exclusive of
Phthisis, numbered 753, and formed over one quarter of the total
mortality from all causes. This is equal to a rate of 5.8 per thousand
population at all ages. A large proportion of the respiratory deaths
were among young children, a mortality of 15.2 per thousand on
the estimated population under five.
