All the cases were investigated, and the source, if possible,
was ascertained. The premises were inspected, and notices were
served for sanitary defects. The drains were carefully examined,
and in nearly every case tested. 5 of the cases were contracted in
hospital after the patients had been admitted suffering from diseases
other than diphtheria. There was 1 " return " case.
Some interesting points in connexion with cases are as
follows:—
1. A patient admitted to hospital suffering from anaemia;
whilst still in hospital he was notified as suffering from diphtheria.
2. A patient admitted to a general hospital suffering from
concussion and shock ; removed 13 days later to isolation hospital
suffering from diphtheria.
