Anthrax, Glanders and Hydrophobia.—No cases were notified
during 1926.
Encephalitis Lethargica.—Six cases were notified during 1926.
Two deaths were reported.
Poliomyelitis and Polio Encephalitis.—One case of acute poliomyelitis
was notified in 1926. There were no deaths.
Measles.—1,142 cases of measles and german measles were
notified during 1926. Measles and german measles have been
compulsorily notifiable in Finsbury from 8th January, 1923 (except
cases occurring within two months of any notified case in the same
household) by order made by the Ministry of Health at the suggestion
of the Borough Council. 240 cases were removed to hospital.
In these cases disinfection was carried out immediately after the
patient's removal, excepting where there was another case remaining
in the same room.
Comparative Table.—In 1926 measles caused 21 deaths (all of
these were under 5 years) and whooping cough 5 deaths. These
two diseases are extremely fatal to children under 5 years.
