Fulham Chest Clinic
The year under review shows little change in the overall size of the problem and its clinical and
bacteriological manifestations.
However, during the last few years the social pattern of the disease has changed so that a considerable
proportion of the notified cases occur in individuals born overseas. This year 10 of the 29 pulmonary cases
were immigrants (34.4%) which, however, shows a fall from 1971 with 19 out of 37 notifications (51.3%) in this
category. The majority of these patients were not discovered at the port of entry.
For the first time in some years the notification of males has occurred in the under 20's; fortunately, there
were no notifications of females under 30. The total number of female notifications is low -7(16)
All the deaths, 13 male and 3 female, occurred in the 56+ age groups which conforms to the pattern of recent
years.
During the current year, we have been joined by the Mass X-Ray Unit under their director, Dr. F. Nash.
This joint use of the existing premises has worked in a satisfactory manner for both units.
