The appointments of Mr. Alexander (chief inspector) and Mr. Lear as sanitary
inspectors in the Shoreditch sanitary district, were sanctioned by the Local Government
Board from January 28th, 1896, so that the whole of the Vestry's sanitary
officers are now appointed with the sanction of the Board an 1 half their salaries are
repayable by the London County Council out of the Exchequer contribution account.
For a few weeks during the year it was necessary to obtain temporary assistance
in the work of disinfection owing to absence from illness of one of the disinfecting
officers.
In consequence of the increase in the number of the sanitary staff, additional
office accommodation is required in the Public Heath Department. This matter is at
present under your consideration.
In conclusion, I beg to express my thanks for the assistance rendered me by the
members of the sanitary staff, and by the Public Health Committee, in the work of
the past year.
I have the honour to be, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
LEWIS T. ERASER BRYETT,
Medical Officer of Health.
