ERYSIPELAS.
The number of cases notified as erysipelas was 295, as compared with 201 in
1895, 195 in 1894, 315 in 1893, and 243 in 1892. There were three deaths, as compared
with five in 1895, five in 1894, 15 in 1893, and 11 in 1892. The mortality was
just over one per cent. of the cases notified as compared with 2.48 in 1895, 2.5 in
1894, 4.7 in 1893, and 4.5 in 1892.
The distribution of the cases, and the deaths amongst males and females in tbe
four subdivisions of the Parish, is set forth below:—

The erysipelas death-rate was 0.02 per thousand, as compared with 0.04 in 1895.
Included in the same group of diseases as erysipelas are pyæmia and septicæmia,
or blood poisoning, which accounted for 11 deaths, and
PUERPERAL FEVER.
There were four cases of this disease notified, none of which were fatal. In
1895 two cases were notified, with one death; in 1894 five cases, with two deaths;
in 1893 eight cases, with six deaths; and in 1892 six cases, which proved fatal. The
attack rate and death-rate per 1000 births during the past five years are contained in
the following table:—
