The above table strikingly illustrates the direct relationship between
housing conditions and the incidence of Tuberculosis. In the East
Ward where the overcrowding evils are worst the notification rate is
3.4 per 1,000 of the population. In North Ward 2.3 per 1,000, and
in South-West Ward, where housing and general conditions are of
higher standard the notification rate is 1.1 per 1,000.
The following table gives the number of deaths and notification rate per 1,000 for Pulmonary and non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis during 1923 and a comparison with the three previous years:—
