Marriages.
There were 1021 marriages in the Borough during the year, as
compared with 1262 in the previous year and the marriage rate 9.3 per
1000 of the population as compared with 11.4 in 1915.

The number of deaths registered within the Metropolitan Borough
of Deptford from all causes during 1916 was 1,126, equal to a deathrate
of 10˙2 as compared with 1,406 deaths, and a death-rate of 12˙7
during the previous year. Of this number 535 were males and 591
females. The total number of deaths belonging to Deptford is obtained
by deducting the number of deaths of non-parishioners registered in
the Borough, viz.: 135, of which number 120 occurred in the Metropolitan
Asylums Board's South Eastern Hospital, making 991 deaths
actually belonging to Deptford. To this number we must add 675
deaths of parishioners which occurred in public institutions outside the
Borough, making a total of 1,666, of which 875 were males and 791
females, and upon these figures the statistics are based.
The death-rate for the Borough was equal to an annual rate of
15˙1 per 1,000 of the population, as compared with 17.8 for 1915,
and 15˙5 for 1913, the average for the past five years being 15.4.
