The Secretary, Mrs. Lamert, reports to me as follows:—
With regard to the Babies' Home, which is really the expensive
part of our work, I am sorry to say that unless the Local Government
Board are able to give us a substantial grant, i.e., 50 per cent. of our
expenses, I fear it will no longer be possible to carry on this much
needed branch of our work. For this, we must have a doctor, trained
nurses, and food stuffs and chemists bills are very heavy items, but the
work is urgently needed, and is doing real good as the records of the
Medical Officer in charge furnish proof."
Deptford Health Centre.
This institution has again been of great service to the Public Health
Department, and many suitable cases have been referred to it for open
air and other treatment during the year by the Health Visitors and our
Tuberculosis Dispensary. The centre is under the management of
Miss McMillan, and the three medical officers attend on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Fridays, at 2 p.m., and there is a nurse in attendance
