SANITARY WORK.
The sanitary work of the Parish was carried out under the
supervision of one chief inspector and eighteen inspectors. Of these
fourteen have charge of separate districts, while two devote their
attention to workshops and factories, one looks after houses let
in lodgings, and one examines food, chiefly meat. The
last mentioned inspector only commenced his duties in
March, and is the first appointment for this special work that has
been made in Islington.
The inspector (Preston) appointed for No. 12 District commenced
his duties in January, having succeeded Inspector Peers,
who had been appointed Chief Inspector of Nuisances at Wolverhampton.
His successor came to Islington with strong testimonials
from Cardiff, a borough in which sanitation is most actively
pursued.
