Puerperal Fever.
Fourteen deaths were registered, three of which occurred in
Upper Holloway, seven in South-west Islington, two in South-east
Islington, and two in Highbury. The total deaths were in the proportion
of 1.45 to every 1,000 registered births, and were exactly
twice the number of those known in the preceding year. Compared
with the other districts the deaths in proportion to the births were
excessive in South-west Islington. There the rate was 2.14 per
1,000 births, whereas in Upper Holloway it was 1.07, in South-east
Islington 1.03, and in Highbury 1.21.
