cal Officer of Health, was sent back for reconsideration.
An attempt was made to secure rooms at the Queen Adelaide's
Dispensary as a health centre, but the House
Committee of the Institution was unsympathetic, and the
application was refused. Other premises were examined,
but all with one exception were found to be unsuitable.
Since the preparation of this Report was commenced, the
premises referred to (which are eminently suitable) have
been secured, and a recommendation has been presented
to the Council reaffirming the previous suggestion of an
Assistant Medical Officer of Health. The recommendation
was accepted, and a lady doctor has been advertised for.
As soon as the lady is appointed, I propose to hold
a conference with the representatives of the various Welfare
Societies working in the district with a view to
elaborating such a scheme as will utilise the efforts of
these bodies and affiliate their officers to the Health
Department of the Council under the supervision of the
lady doctor, such scheme to be laid before, and sanctioned
by, the Council.
