DEATH RATES.
We show a mortality rate for the year 1916 of 15.26
per thousand persons living, calculated on the Registrar-
General's estimate of the civil population (115,552). This
rate, which is over two below that of the previous year,
is one above the rate for London, which is 14.26. In
the sub-districts the rate in the North-East was 16.0 and
in the South-West 14.3. These rates are exclusive of
the deaths of ten homeless paupers who died in the Workhouse
and Infirmary, although these are necessarily
included in the general rate for the whole Borough.
COMPARATIVE DEATH RATES.
Table "E" shows the mortality rates for Bethnal
Green and for London compared by months, the rainfall
and the mean temperature for each month being also
shown. Table "F" compares the death rates for
London and for Bethnal 'Green by quarters. The death
rates in these tables are set out here for purposes of
comparison only, as they were calculated on the estimated
population in the middle of 1915.
