three months' imprisonment. He committed Thomas

Twenty-one cases were dismissed upon successful
"warranty" defences. In four further cases, the complaint
was dismissed on a variation between the result
of analysis of milk by the Public Analyst and the analyst
at Somerset House—which was not surprising in view of
the fact that the first analyses were made when the milk
was sweet and the second analyses when the samples
were sour and extremely decomposed, and the result had
to be amended or completed by calculation. In two
cases complaints were dismissed that notice of adulteration
was given at the time of purchase.
In seven of the cases withdrawn a conviction was
obtained on another summons in respect of the same
sample. In two cases notice of warranty resulted in
withdrawal upon terms—costs being paid by the
defendants.
