General Assistant J. H. Hewitt.—Sanitary Inspector.
Mrs. Hodgkins.—Health Visitor.
Mr. Bagwell, Mr. Wiseman.—Assistant Clerks.
Owing to the outbreak of the European War the
work of the Public Health Department has been carried
on under considerable disadvantages. One Sanitary
Inspector and a Clerk joined the Army, and other
members of the staff have been occupied part time on
relief committees and other kindred work.
Inspector Billings was recalled to the 1st London
Sanitary Company, and Mr. Pendrill enlisted in the
4th Batt. of the Essex Regiment; Mr. Hewitt, my
personal clerk, who holds the certificate of the Sanitary
Inspectors' Board, was temporarily appointed in place
of Mr. Billings, and two temporary assistant clerks were
selected to fill the vacancies thus created.
