of the cows in question, and that the result of the analyses
showed that, individually and collectively, the milk given
by the cows was very much below the standard.
As a successful line of defence, this procedure was.
of course, entirely satisfactory, but the Public Health
Committee consider it to be a question as to whether any
contractor keeping cows giving milk of such a low standard
should be permitted to supply milk to school centres
to be served out to children as food.
A letter has been addressed, by order of the Public
Health Committee, to the Chairman and the Secretary of
the local Association of Children's Care Committees, informing
them of the action taken by this Authority, and
the results thereof.
APPENDIX E. (7)
Extract from Monthly Report.
January, 1914.
SCHOOL CARE COMMITTEES.—MILK SUPPLY.
Report re taking samples of milk on delivery at
various London County Council Schools in the Borough.
Acting under the instructions of Mr. Foot, I have
been recently engaged in taking samples of milk on delivery
at certain of the London County Council Schools in
the district.
According to Mr. Stedman (the London County
Council Correspondent for this district) there are twentyone
schools where milk is supplied to the children. The
quantity varies from about twenty-two quarts down to
one quart.
