EXAMINATION OF RATS.
In connection with change of location of the teaching centre of the London School
of Tropical Medicine, Dr. Newham, who made the examinations since the inception
of systematic examination of rats in the Port Sanitary District, wrote with regret that
he was unable to continue the work under the circumstances. It was recommended
that the rat examinations be carried out by the Seamen's Hospital Society through
their resident Pathologist at the Royal Albert Dock Hospital, Dr. H. M. Hanschell,
and that your Medical Officer make arrangements to that end with the Secretary of
the Society and with Dr. Hanschell on the former basis, namely:—
Up to 2,000 rats examined £250
Each 1,000 after £50
The examination to be personally conducted by Dr. Hanschell, or, when necessary,
by a substitute approved by the Medical Officer of Health.
In the Appendix will be found analytic tables of the work done by Dr. Hanschell.
