rooms, arranged in 241 tenements, and are occupied by 799* persons, compared
with 720 in 1918. 70.6 per cent, are adults and 294 per cent, children (under
14 years).
The number of births was 15, viz. : six males and nine females. The birth rate
was 18.7 per 1,000, which is 7.4 per 1,000 below the average for the previous five
years.
The death rate for 1919 was 62 per 1,000 per annum. The number of deaths
of children under one year, per 1,000 births, was 66, as against 108 for the City
generally.

The birth rate in these Dwellings reached a maximum of 469 per 1,000 in 1896, and has since been falling, as shown by the following figures:—

The Baths provided for the use of the tenants of these Buildings, which were
opened in May, 1904, continue to be extensively used, the number of persons
bathing during 1919 being 8,635, of whom 3,079 were males and 5,565 were females.
