Total Inspections.
Altogether 37,371 inspections were made during1 1916 by the staff of
Inspectors. These consisted of 22,508 inspections and 14,863 re-inspections
(generally after the service of intimation notices).
Of these inspections 22,250 were made by the District Inspectors 2,765 by
the Factories and Workshops Inspector, 6,226 by the Inspectors of Food and
Food-places, and 6,130 by the Women Inspectors and Visitors.
The inspections actually made by each individual Inspector are shown in
table 8 on page 70.
The work of the District Inspectors, Factories and Workshops Inspector,
Women Inspectors, and Food Inspectors is set out in detail in tables 5 to 8 on
pages 67 to 70.
Intimation Notices.
1,974 intimation notices (comprising 3,847 items) were served by the
Sanitary Inspectors during 1916. These were made up as follows —

Smoke-Prevention.
During the year 57 observations of smoke shafts were made and 12 reinspections
after the service of notices. There were no prosecutions.
Regulated Trades.
Offensive Truden.—There are two licensed premises for such trades in St.
Pancras, viz., a tripe-dresser's in Kentish Town Road, and a tallow-melter's
in Tudor Place.
