TYPHOID FEVER.
38 cases were notified as suffering from typhoid fever during 1916.
Of these 38 cases, 9 were afterwards reported not to be suffering from the
disease by Medical Superintendents of Metropolitan Asylums Board hospitals.
Of the remaining 39 cases one was a military case of paratyphoid fever.
There was also one case notified as continued fever which proved to be one of
typhoid fover.
The true cases of typhoid fever belonging to the civil population notified
during the year were therefore 29 in number, equal to an incidence rate of 0.15
per 1,000 civil population.
Of the 29 notified cases, 5 died, the case mortality being therefore 17.2
percent. There were no "inward transfers" and the total number of St.
Pancras deaths was therefore 5, equal to a death rate of 0.03 per 1000 civil
population.
Other statistical facts in regard to the disease will be found on pages 14-15.

Outbreaks of Typhoid Fever.
A local outbreak of typhoid fever occurred in a Somers Town street during
October.
The first case, W.B., male, 21/2, Drummond Crescent, had diarrhoea for two weeks
about the end of September, and received no medical attention. His blood
was examined on 4th November and found to give a positive Widal reaction 1
in 80 with B. typhosus upon which alone the diagnosis of typhoid fever was
based.
The second case, G.A.B., age 9 (brother), became ill about 3rd October, and was
admitted to hospital 8 days later.
The third case, L.P., female, 13, lived at 46, Drummond Crescent, immediately
opposite. She used to play with the B. children, but did not take food in their
house. She fell ill about 9thOctober, and was admitted to hospital 14 days
later.
