TUBERCULOSIS.
The total number of notifications of cases of tuberculosis received during
1916 (Forms A, B, C and D), including duplicate notifications, was 1,628
(1,430 pulmonary; 198 non-pulmonary).
768 notifications (641 pulmonary, 127 non-pulmonary) were received
during the year on forms A and B. Of these 93 (83 pulmonary, 10 nonpulmonary)
had been notified to this authority before ; so that the number
of primary notifications received on forms A and B was 675 (558 pulmonary,
117 non-pulmonary).
860 notifications (789 pulmonary, 71 non-pulmonary) were received on
forms C and D Of these 198 (177 pulmonary, 21 non-pulmonary) were in
respect of cases which had not been notified previously to this authority.
The total number of primary notifications received during the year was,
therefore, 873 (735 pulmonary, 138 non-pulmonary).
In the previous year (1915) the number of primary notifications received
was 1083 (933 pulmonary, 150 non-pulmonary).
In the table on the next page the notifications received are set out in the form
suggested by the Local Government Board.
The deaths from tuberculosis during the year numbered 423, of which 340
(218 males, 122 females) were from phthisis, and 83 (46 males, 37 females)
from other forms of tuberculosis.

The death rates for 1916 from tuberculosis based on the 1911 census population of the borough, and the rates based on the civil population, were therefore:—
