Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Diphtheria.
531 cases were notified, (85 in Clapham, 25 in Putney, 102 in
Streatham, 82 in Tooting and 237 in Wandsworth).
The total number of deaths was 55 (10 in Clapham, none in
Putney, nine in Streatham, 11 in Tooting and 25 in Wandsworth),
and the death-rate per 1,000 was .17.
The number of cases notified per 1,000 of population was
1.70, and the case mortality was 10.3 per cent.
The number of dwellings in each sub-district and the whole
Borough in which multiple cases occurred is shown in the following
Table.

An outbreak of Diphtheria occurred at Warple Way School,
Wandsworth, and the occurrence was the subject of the following
special report:-
"I have to report the occurrence of an outbreak of Diphtheria
among children attending the Infants' and Girls' Departments
of Warple Way School, Wandsworth.
"Eight cases were notified to me from the 17th to the 31st
January, 1916, but as two of the cases occurred in one household.
