THE CAUSES OF DEATH. — These are fully set forth
in Table I., in which it will be noted that the deaths are also
apportioned to different age periods.
Comparing this table with the corresponding table of the
preceding year, the following facts are noteworthy: An increase
in the deaths from Influenza and Pneumonia; and a decrease
of those from Cancer and Measles.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
There were 58 deaths registered of infants under one year of
age, as against 665 births; the proportion which the deaths
under one year of age bear to 1,000 births is, therefore, 87.2, as
against 85'6 in the preceding year.
The deaths under one year of age form 7 6 per cent. of the total deaths at all ages, whereas those for the preceding year formed 9 4 per cent.
