It was found necessary to institute Police Court proceedings
in six cases only during the year, particulars of which are contained
in the table on page 58.
There were altogether throughout the year 595 complaints
registered.
Factories, Workshops and Workplaces.—Two hundred
and ninety-four inspections have been paid to these premises within
the Borough during the year. There were 175 workshop premises
on the Register at the beginning of the year, 10 have been added
and 2 taken off, leaving a total now on the Register of 183. This
total includes 8 laundries, 13 dressmaking and mantle works,
9 fuel and firewood works, 3 cycle works, 2 milliners, and various
others, including workplaces, such as 4 blacksmiths, 14 barge builders
4 builders' yards, etc.
Outworkers' Register.—Seventeen lists, containing 46 names
and addresses have been received from employers within the
district. In addition to this 58 lists containing 152 names and
addresses of Outworkers residing in this Borough were received
from Medical Officers of Health of other Boroughs, whilst 17 lists
with 23 names and addresses were forwarded to other districts,
thus giving a total of 175 Outworkers in the Borough. One
hundred and sixty-five visits of inspection have been paid to these
premises.
