Dentures were supplied in 6 instances, the Council paying part
cost. The Council have resolved to determine the agreement with the
British Dentists Hospisal and to appoint a part-time dentist.
This arrangement will come into force in April 1924, and should prove
of advantage in every way.
X-ray Examinations. During the year 50 patients were
examined of whom 29 were children. There were 47 examinations
of the chest and 3 of other parts.
Sputum Examinations. Of 235 sputum specimens bacteriologically
examined at the Seamen's Hospital, 48 proved positive and
the remainder negative. At the same time 300 specimens were
chemically examined at the Dispensary for Albumen, with very
similar results to those mentioned last year.
The Interim Tuberculosis Care Committee. The Council
having now agreed to form a permanent Care Committee the
following Report will be the last one issued by the present Committee.
In appending the Report I desire to warmly acknowledge
the help which has been always willingly and freely rendered
by the Committee and especially by the Honorary Secretary to
the many cases referred to them by the Dispensary.
Much of the assistance given has been of such a nature as cannot
well be written down, but the friendly visits, the kindly advice and
the interest shown in their welfare, have been much appreciated by
the patients and also by the Dispensary staff.
The Report is as follows and it only calls for me to endorse
the Hon. Secretary's remarks regarding the difficulties in obtaining
suitable Housing and Employment for Tuberculous patients.
