The quarterly incidence of the disease for 1923 has been as
follows :—
lst Quarter— East Greenwich, 48 cases ; West Greenwich, 26 ; St.
Nicholas, 11 ; Charlton, 3 ; Kidbrooke,8 ; a total
of 96 cases.
2nd Quarter—East Greenwich, 27 cases ; West Greenwich, 9 ; St.
Nicholas, 3 ; Charlton, 6 ; a total of 45 cases.
3rd Quarter—East Greenwich, 12 cases ; West Greenwich, 13 ; St.
Nicholas, 4 ; Charlton, 7 ; Kidbrooke, 2 ; a total
of 38 cases.
4th Quarter—East Greenwich, 9 cases ; West Greenwich, 14 ; St.
Nicholas 1 ; Charlton, 14 ; a total of 38 cases.
Membranous Croup.—There were no cases of Membranous
Croup notified during the year.
Erysipelas.—Fifty-six cases were notified during the year,
22 being in East Greenwich, 18 in West Greenwich, 12 in St. Nicholas,
2 in Charlton and 2 in Kidbrooke. Nineteen of these patients were
removed to a Public Institution in the district.
Scarlet Fever.—Two hundred and nineteen cases were
notified during the year, as compared with 587, 958 and 599 cases
respectively in the years 1920, 1921, and 1922 ; 104 cases were in
East Greenwich, 62 in West Greenwich, 18 in St. Nicholas, 23 in
Charlton and 12 in Kidbrooke ; 201 of these cases were removed to
the Hospital for treatment, 7 of which were returned as not suffering
from this disease. There were two deaths from this disease during
the year as against 6 last year.
There were no cases which could be described as " Return
Cases," as compared with 10 in the previous year.
Typhoid Fever.—There were 16 cases of Typhoid or Enteric
Fever notified during the year, 9 being in East Greenwich, 5 in West
Greenwich, 1 in St. Nicholas and 1 in Charlton. The ages of the
patients were : 1 between one and five years, 4 between five and
fifteen years, 3 between fifteen and twenty-five years, 5 between
twenty-five and forty-five years and 3 between forty-five and sixtyfive
years. Fourteen cases were removed to Hospital for treatment.
In the years 1919, 1920, 1921 and 1922 there were 20, 15, 11, and
3 cases respectively. The average number for the previous 10
years is 13.
