INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality, measured by the deaths of children
under one year of age to the number of births registered, was 61
per 1,000 births, there having been a total of 129 such deaths
during the year, as compared with 195, 175 and 121, the respective
figures for the years 1920, 1921, and 1922.
A further reference to the Infantile Mortality Rate will be found
in the Section devoted to the Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme.
For the whole of London the rate was 60 in 1923, compared
with 74 in 1922, 80 in 1921 and 75 in 1920. For England and Wales
the rate was 69, compared with 77 in 1922, 83 in 1921 and 80 in 1920.
Locally the variations were from 5 per 1,000 births in Kidbrooke,
28 in Charlton, 66 in East Greenwich, 68 in St. Nicholas to 87 in
West Greenwich.
