Boroughs for very kindly giving their services as judges, and to
members of the Committee and their friends for assistance in providing
the necessary prizes.
Maternity Home.—Kidbrooke House, 78, Shooters Hill Road,
was formally opened as the Council's Maternity Home on 25th
February, 1922, the first patient being admitted on 2nd March.
Between that date and the end of the year 121 cases were accommodated,
the average duration of stay in the Home being 15•3 days.
The following brief details of these admissions are submitted:—

It is gratifying to be able to report that there were no maternal
deaths, no cases of Puerperal Sepsis, and no incidence of Ophthalmia
Neonatorum.
Of the 115 living infants, 61 were boys and 54 girls, the average
weights at birth being respectively 71bs. 13ozs. and 71bs. 3ozs. With
the exception that 5 had supplementary feeds, all were wholly breast
fed.
At the end of the year all these infants were doing well, incontrovertible
evidence surely of the care and attention received by
both mother and babe whilst accommodated in the Home.
In almost every case the applicant's housing accommodation
was either inadequate or unsuitable for the confinement to take
place at home, and the many expressions of gratitude to the Council
for providing suitable accommodation coupled with expert services
have but served to confirm the opinion expressed in last year's
Report as to the great need in Greenwich for a Maternity Home.
