Royal Hill, Greenwich.
May, 1921.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit herewith the Annual Report of
the Medical Officer of Health for the year 1920.
The Birth Rate is 24.67 per 1,000 for Greenwich and 26.5
for the whole of the County of London.
The Mortality Statistics for the year are, I am pleased to say,
of a satisfactory character, the recorded Death Rate of 11.72
per 1,000 of the estimated population being less than the corresponding
figure for last year, i.e., 1315 per 1,000, and just below the
figure of 12.4 per 1,000, which is the Death Rate for the County of
London, and 12.5 per 1,000, the figure for the ninety-six large
towns.
The Infantile Mortality Rate for the Borough, measured by
the number of deaths under one year to 1,000 births registered, is
75, a decrease from 95, the figure for last year; the figure for
all London is 75, compared with 89 in 1919, and the Borough average
during the last five years, 1915-19 inclusive, is 101.
The Zymotic Death Rate of .84 per 1,000 is the same as it was
last year.

The figures relating to the different constituent parts of the Borough are as follows:—
