Before closing the Report it may be advisable to give a brief
summary of the Council's scheme for the prevention of Tuberculosis.
The Borough is divided into four districts, to each of which a
Tuberculosis Nurse is allotted.
Every case notified is visited unless a request is expressed to
the contrary.
Inquiry is made with regard to every death registered. Disinfection
is carried out in every instance. Every endeavour is made
to induce contacts and relatives to attend the Dispensary for examination.
The hours of attendance at the Dispensary have been revisedSeveral
additional sessions have been arranged and the Dispensary
is now open every week-day. There are two evening sessions for the
convenience of patients who may be working or who cannot
attend at other times. A special session has been arranged on
Saturday mornings for school children, thus avoiding loss of attendance
at school. The closest co-operation exists between the Maternity
and Child Welfare Centres, the School Authorities and the
Dispensary. The Dispensary Staff is ready at all times to render
all assistance or advice with regard to Tuberculosis.
In concluding this Report I desire to acknowledge my indebtedness
to the whole staff for their courtesy and co-operation
in carrying out the work at the Dispensary.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
M. MACDONALD, M.D., D.P.H.
