Amongst the total number of births registered in the Borough
there were 109 in which the name of the father was not registered
and therefore not given in the return; accordingly, these births
may be presumed to be of an illegitimate character. Eighty-nine of
such births were registered in the East Greenwich District, which
includes 75 in the Greenwich and Deptford Hospital; of these 75,
in 16 cases the mother was ordinarily a resident in the Borough of
Deptford, 33 in Lewisham, seven in Woolwich, one in Brighton,
one in Bermondsey and one in Wimbledon, and accordingly this
number of births have been transferred to those Boroughs. The
home address of the other 16 were: 10 in East Greenwich, five in
West Greenwich, and one in Charlton.
The remaining 34 were allocated to the district in this Borough
in which the mother resided, making 14 of such births belonging
to East Greenwich, 15 to West Greenwich, none to St. Nicholas,
four to Charlton and one to Kidbrooke.
The Birth Rate for the County of London equals 26.5 per
1,000 of the population. The Birth Rate for all England and Wales
was 25.4.
Under the provisions of the Notifications of Births Act, 1907,
intimations have been received from medical men, parents, and
others, with respect to 2,714 births.
