Food Preparation. Places where food is prepared have been visited on 177 occasions, improvements being required in 43 instances, as detailed below:—

The 43 instances where matters needed attention included 35
cases where the premises generally, or kitchen and scullery particularly,
needed cleansing and lime-washing, 2 where the sanitary
arrangements were defective, 1 which required reconstruction, and
5 for want of ashpit.
Customs and Inland Revenue Acts.—No application was
received during the year for certificates under these Acts.
Public Health, Milk and Cream Regulations, 1912—1917.
No special samples have been taken during the year under these
regulations, but the Public Analyst reports respecting every sample
of milk taken as to the presence or otherwise of preservatives and
the actual amount of fat present.
Milk, Mothers' and Children's Orders, 1918. During the
year 17,038 lbs. of dried milk of various kinds have been supplied
under these orders to mothers and children attending our Infant
Consultation Centres.
Food and Drugs Acts. Four hundred and twenty-six samples
have been purchased under the provisions of the Sale of Food and
Drugs Acts and submitted to the Public Analyst for analysis, of
which 404 were certified to be genuine and 22 adulterated, the
adulterations thus being equivalent to 5.1 per cent. of the samples
taken.
Of the total number of samples purchased, 158 were milk
of which 18 were certified to be adulterated; the remaining adulterated
samples were 2 of mustard mixture and 2 of vinegar.
