Food Preparation. Places where food is prepared have been visited on 102 occasions, improvements being required in 12 instances, as detailed below: —

These 12 instances were premises which required cleansing.
Customs and Inland Revenue Acts. —No application was
received during the year for certificates under these Acts.
Houses Let in Lodgings.
There was no change in the Register of Houses during 1918,
so that the number of premises on the Register of Houses Let in
Lodgings is still 247 as at the end of last year.
Twenty-eight inspections were paid to these houses during the
year, which brought to light the fact that under the Public Health
(London) Act, 1891, Ash-bins were required in 7 cases.
House Drainage. Three drains have been constructed, 145
drainage systems have been reconstructed or repaired; 204 such
systems have also been opened, cleansed and amended; 37 surface
drains have been constructed; 28 drains and soil pipes have been
ventilated, 77 systems have been tested by smoke, 84 by water and
60 by chemicals, of which number 87 were found to be defective;
13 new soil pipes and 96 traps have been fixed, together with 6
intercepting chambers and fresh-air inlets; 5 areas, 19 yards, and 1
