The Queen's Jubilee Nurses have been very helpful in giving a
course of hot Lysol douches to each of these patients, at my suggestion.
Health visiting of patients.
This has been undertaken during the last year, most ably and
sympathetically by Mrs. Roche. I cannot speak too strongly of her
excellent work in this direction.
Co-operation with Midwives
By a special arrangement, the Queen's Jubilee Nurses in this
Borough are undertaking maternity work for the Borough Council.
They send me up all the cases that they have booked beforehand, during
pregnancy, to see. A few patients have also been sent to me by private
midwives in the Borough.
Supply of" assisted milk."
The assisted milk scheme in this Borough during the last year, when
milk has been so dear, has been of the greatest assistance in maintaining
the nutrition of the expectant mothers. Under the scheme, milk is
supplied at half price to expectant and nursing mothers, and in a few
very needy cases it is given free.

Sanitary Inspectors.
A list of the staff, with the duties allotted to them, is detailed on

The arrangements for chemical and bacteriological work are as
follows : —
Chemical analysis is in practically all cases undertaken by the
Borough Analyst, Mr. A. W. Stokes, and details of the work done in
1919 will be found in the section of this report relating to Food.
Bacteriological examinations are carried out by the Lister Institute
of Preventive Medicine, excepting examinations of material for
detection of tubercle bacilli, which are performed by the hospital to
which the Municipal Dispensary is affiliated, who also make any
necessary X ray examinations.
