Infant Mortality.
During 1923 the deaths of 170 infants were registered as belonging
to Battersea. The total number of births registered during the
year was 3,434, giving an infant mortality-rate of 49.5 per 1,000
births. This is by far the lowest infant death-rate yet recorded in
Battersea.
There were only five Boroughs in the County of London with a
lower infant mortality than Battersea.
The infant mortality-rates in Battersea and in London for the years which have elapsed since the formation of the Borough, as well as for the previous decennium, are set out in the following table:—

The infant mortality-rate for the County of London for the
year 1923 was 60.4 per 1,000 births.
