The disease was fairly uniformly spread over the whole Borough,
and no one district can be singled out in which there was a special
incidence.
The notifications from enteric were nearly all made under this title,
no distinction having been made between the typhoid and paratyphoid
infections, except two which were sent in as belonging to
the para-typhoid B. group of infection. There were only six notification
received, and three of these died ; the smallness of the former
compared with the latter leads one to the idea that either a very
severe type of this disease prevailed in those attacked or else that
there were attacks of enteric not recognised as such. Anyway,
there being only three deaths is a matter for gratification, for the
presence or absence of this disease has ever been held to be the index
of the sanitary condition of the community.
One rare notification was received, namely, relapsing fever, in
the case of a gas worker who had served in France.
There were 52 notifications of malaria in soldiers who had
served either in Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, Salonica, German East
Africa and the West Indies. All of them were receiving proper
medical attention.
The single case of anthrax was that of a man who had bought
a shaving brush while away on a holiday. The Medical Officer of
