the consultations has been below expectations, and further
efforts are needed if we are to approximate to the ideal
that children shall be under continuous medical supervision
from birth till they leave school.
Ante-Natal Clinic.—The attendances at the antenatal
consultations which have been held by two of the
doctors on the staff, Dr. Mildred Burgess and Dr. Alice
Benham have been disappointing, as only 28 women
consulted the doctors during the year. The results,
however, obtained in several cases show the value of the
clinic and have encouraged the Committee of the School
to try to extend its operations.
Dental Clinic.—A further development of the work
of the School has been the establishment of a Dental
Clinic for nursing and expectant mothers attending the
Centres. An arrangement was made with the Committee
of the Fulham School Treatment Centre for the
use of the rooms used for the School Dental Clinic, at
18, Bagley's Lane on one evening weekly, and the
services of Mr. T. Vernon, L.D.S., the School Dentist,
were engaged. A nominal fee ranging from 2d. to 9d.
is paid for extractions, fillings, etc., and dentures are
paid for by small instalments extending over from nine
to twelve months. The clinic was opened in November,
and during the first four months 54 women were treated,
all of whom were supplied with dentures.
The clinic should meet an urgent want as the condition
of the teeth of working class mothers is very often
deplorable, and the need for adequate treatment is
generally recognised.
Fulham Babies Hospital.—In March, 1916, a
Nursing Home for Children under three years of age,
was opened at 706, Fulham Road, which had been
adapted and equipped for the purpose by a voluntary
committee. The special objects of the Institution were
that it should serve as a hospital for sick Fulham babies
and that the mothers should be encouraged to visit
