Smoke Abatement.—During last year observations
were kept in reference to the amount of black smoke
emitted from the various factories, laundries, bakehouses,
&c., situate in and adjoining the borough. Seven
preliminary notices and 2 statutory notices were served.
No summons was taken out.
Reports were submitted to the Public Health Committee
in reference to the observations made on the
chimneys belonging to:—
Eton Laundry, Hadyn Park Road.
Glen Laundry, Landor Road, Shepherd's Bush.
Houses Let in Lodgings.—During the last year the
Public Health Committee gave directions for the registration
of 128 "houses let in lodgings or occupied by
the members of more than one family." Upon the
registration a copy of the By-laws of your Council,
under which such houses are registered, was forwarded
to the landlord (within the meaning of the By-laws) for
his guidance. From various causes 160 houses have
been removed from the list, leaving a total number now
on the Register of 2,707. During the year 107 notices
were served and 104 were complied with.
