that exists in the infantile death-rates of legitimate and illegitimate
children under one year of age.

The excessive death-rate among illegitimate children still continues,
and the matter is one of great difficulty to deal with. There seems to
be little that will serve as a substitute for true maternal care, but special
attention is now being given to all illegitimate births that come under
our notice as occurring among Hampstead women.
