where such supply is necessary because of the retail price of
milk in any area.
(4) The maximum quantity to be supplied is prescribed—
(а) Children under 18 months—1½ pints daily ;
(б) Children between 18 months and five years—1 pint daily
(c) Expectant and nursing mothers—the quantity prescribed
by the doctor.
The scale set out below was adopted by the Council during
1919 :—
Families with an incomc of 10s. and upwards per head—No
allowance.
„ „ „ 9s. to 10s. To pay 75%
„ „ „ 8s. to 9s. „ 50 „
„ „ „ 7s. to 8s. „ 25 „
„ „ „ Under 7s. Given free.
Daring the year it was found desirable to discontinue the
practice of granting milk direct from the Centres, and all recommendations
are now dealt with through the Health Department.
Milk supplied free of cost to necessitous cases involved the Council
in an expenditure of £2,044 12s. 1d.
