Act 6,442 notifications of births were received during 1920. This

44 less than the number registered by the Registrar of Births.
Still-Births.—Amongst the births notified 171 were still-born.
This is equal to 2.6 per cent. of those notified. A table is here
given showing the number of notifications received, with other

Illegitimate Births and Birth-rate.—The total number of
illegitimate births registered in the Borough during the year 1920
was 416; but of these, the Registrar-General states that 272
should be transferred to districts outside the Borough, as the
mothers were not Hackney residents, and 24 births which
took place in other districts, should be transferred to Hackney.
These corrections having been made, there remain 144 illegitimate
births amongst Hackney residents. This is equivalent to an
illegitimate birth-rate of 24.0 per 1,000 births.
