Infantile Mortality.—The deaths under one year of age in the
Borough during 1915 numbered 520. This is an increase of 28 upon
the number of infants' deaths recorded during 1914. The infant
mortality rate for the year is 107 per 1,000 births. The increased
rate is due chiefly to an increase in the number of deaths from
bronchitis and pneumonia. Other special causes of infant deaths
deserving mention are premature birth (72), diarrhoea (95),
atrophy, debility and marasmus (78).
