HOUSES LET IN LODGINGS.
There are 1,058 houses under the operation of the bye-laws. 1,137
inspections were made during the year, followed by 7,030 subsequent reinspections
and calls, so that the total visits amounted to 8,167.
These inspections resulted in 682 intimations being forwarded to the
persons responsible, which were followed by 107 statutory notices to demand
the abatement of the nuisances discovered by the two inspectors especially
engaged upon this work.
Three summonses were taken out for non-compliance with the notices
served.

Altogether 2,605 improvements were effected in 703 premises. Synopsis of Inspectors' Work:—
