Sixty-fifth annual report on the health and sanitary condition of the Metropolitan Borough of Islington

Shelter House.—The Shelter House was occupied by ten persons
during the disinfection of their homes after infectious diseases. Baths were
given to 11 verminous persons; and to 7 persons suffering from Scabies whilst
their clothing was disinfected. Four midwives also attended for the purpose
of disinfection after attendance on cases of Puerperal Fever.
Verminous School Children.—During the year 5,405 baths were
given to children from the London County Council Schools, who attended the
Disinfecting Station, and were cleansed by the nurse whom the Borough
Council appointed for the work, while their clothing was undergoing disinfection.
The daily attendance ranged from 2 to 45.
The agreement entered into between the London County Council and
the Borough Council, for the cleansing of verminous children, is a payment
of 1s. for each bath; upon the understanding that the minimum amount to be
paid to the Borough Council in respect of such cleansing shall be £100 per
annum.
The amount paid during the year by the London County Council for the
baths given to the children was £270 5s. 0d.
No legal proceedings were instituted by the London County Council under
Section 122 of the Children Act, 1908, during the year.
FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ADMINISTRATION.
In compliance with the requirements of the Factory and Workshops Act,
it is the duty of the Medical Officer of Health to submit an annual report on
the manner in which its provisions are carried out in his district, and accordingly
he herewith submits it for the year 1920.

Notices served.—In consequence of the 1,014 sanitary defects discovered
as the result of the inspections above; 234 intimations and 14 statutory
notices were served. Of these notices 59 were served on the owners of factories,
