SEPTIC DISEASES.
Erysipelas and Puerperal Septicaemia are the principal diseases of this
class.
Erysipelas.—15 deaths were returned from this disease, or 2 more than
in the year 1919, and 5 above the average of the preceding ten years 1910-19.
Puerperal Diseases.—These comprise Puerperal Pyaemia, Septicaemia,
Septic Intoxication and Puerperal Fever, and they caused 9 deaths, which is
4 below the return of 1919, and 2 more than the average of the ten years
1910-19.
CONSTITUTIONAL DISEASES.
The chief of these diseases are Cancer, Tuberculosis, Rheumatism,
Diabetes, Gout, Gangrene and Purpura. They were collectively responsible
for 918 deaths, as contrasted with an average of 1,047 in the preceding ten
years. The death rate represented 2.73 per 1,000, as contrasted with a
decennial average of 3.31.
Cancer.—There were 402 deaths from this malignant disease during the
year compared with 438 in 1919, and with an average of 391 in the previous
decennium. The deaths represent a death rate of 1.20 per 1,000 of the civil
population and is 0.04 below the average rate (1.24) of the last ten years, 200
deaths occurred among males and 202 among females. The following statement
shows the ages at death of the persons attacked during the past eleven
vears:—
