Shops, etc., Inspection of.—The number of shops, etc., where
foodstuffs are sold varies somewhat from time to time, but may be approximated
for the year as follows:—
Butchers, provision dealers, etc., 178, meat and rabbit stalls 3, food
preparation establishments 16, fish shops 76, fish stalls 5, fruit shops 163,
and about 15 fruit stalls and barrows. To these a total of 8,007 visits were
made, apportioned as under, viz.:—
Butchers, Provision Dealers, etc., Shops 4,544 visits.
Food Preparation Establishments 281 „
Butcher and Provision Stalls, 115 „
Fish Shops 1,081 „
„ Stalls 148 „
Fruit Shops 1,467 „
„ Stalls 371 „
Total
8,007 visits.
Cowhouses.—There are 4 cowhouses, but only three are actually in use
in the borough, and these were visited upon 18 occasions. They were
generally found to be satisfactory.
Offensive Trades.—The 4 tripe boilers, 2 gut scrapers and the knacker's
yard received 69 visits during the year.
