FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ADMINISTRATION.
In compliance with the requirement of the Factory and Workshops Act,
the Medical Officer of Health, herewith, submits his annual report on the work
carried out by the Workshops' Inspectors during the year 1918.

Inspections and Visits.—The inspections and visits made by the Inspectors were as under:—

Notices served.—In consequence of the 1,178 sanitary defects discovered
as the result of the above-mentioned inspections, 213 intimations and 27 statutory
notices were served. Of these notices 68 were served on the owners of factories,
148 on the owners of workshops, 24 on the owners of other work places. In
addition to these nuisances, 99 were discovered on Outworkers' premises,
necessitating the service of 46 notices.
Registers.—There were 1,887 workshops on the Register, as contrasted with
1,896 in 1917, while the total number of workrooms was 2,707, as contrasted
with 2,624 in the previous year. 106 workshops were added to the Register
while 115 were removed from it.
