DISINFECTION.
Disinfection of Rooms.—1,349 rooms were disinfected, as contrasted
with 2,210 in 1915. For this purpose formaldehyde, either in a gaseous form
or in solution, is usually employed, although it is sometimes augmented bysulphur
dioxide, when it is necessary to kill vermin, for which purpose it has
been found most effective.
N.B.—The above figures also include the disinfection of houses and
rooms after Tuberculosis, vide p. 47.

The Cleansing and Spraying of Rooms.-1,749 rooms, as contrasted with 2,116 in 1915, were cleansed and sprayed.

The following class-rooms, etc., were disinfected after the occurrence in
them of cases of the diseases mentioned:—
1st Quarter. Sebbon Street, L.C.C. Schools (Scarlet Fever).
2nd Quarter. Duncombe Road, L.C.C. Schools (Cerebro-Spinal Fever).
Colebrooke School, Duncan Terrace (Measles).
Sebbon Street, L.C.C. Schools (Scarlet Fever).
3rd Quarter. Hanover Street, L.C.C. Schools (Scarlet Fever).
4th Quarter. Canonbury Road, L.C.C. Schools (Measles).
Convent Schools, Eden Grove (Scarlet Fever).
Guardians' Schools, Hornsey Road (Ringworm).
Work at the Disinfecting Station.—50,064 large articles of bedding,
etc., as detailed below, were disinfected by the steam disinfectors, at the
Council's Disinfecting Station, compared with 65,251 similar articles disinfected
during the previous year. This considerable difference was due to the large
decrease in the number of cases of Scarlet Fever.
In addition to the above articles 54,611 old or second-hand garments
mostly soldiers' overcoats, jackets and tunics were disinfected for clothing
contractors trading in the borough, who paid the Council for the work,
amounting to the sum of £67 6s. 0d.
