Exclusion of Scholars from Schools.—2,134 children were excluded
from classrooms of various schools owing to the presence of an infectious
disease, principally Scarlet Fever, in the houses wherein they lived.

BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS.
During the year 951 examinations were made of sputum and blood of
patients for the medical profession for the detection of Diphtheria, Enteric
Fever and Phthisis. This number shows a decrease of 333 on the return
for 1915, and was 614 less than for 1914.
