Pulmonary Phthisis.—To this disease 458 deaths were ascribed, as contrasted with a decennial average of 428, while the death-rate was 1.48 per 1,000 of the civil population, as against a decennial rate of 1.30 per 1,000. Thus it is seen there was an increase of 30 on the average number of deaths, and 0.18 on the mean death-rate.

Other Tubercular Diseases.—In addition to the deaths from Phthisis
there were 115 from other tubercular diseases, namely:—
Tabes Mesenterica 22 deaths.
Tubercular Meningitis 60 „
General Tuberculosis 12 „
Other forms of Tuberculosis 21 „
These brought up the total deaths from tubercular diseases to 573, which
are equal to an annual death-rate of 1.81 per 1,000 of the civil population.
